Little LL help for LR

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is even appropriate here, and certainly understand if moderators deem that it is not. But if not, I'd like to ask you all's for a little LL to LR help.

This link is to a petition at Change.org, for the US government to pass a Tier V unemployment benefits extension (hopefully to the end of the year). This is an extension for those who have been hit the hardest and out of work the longest but have to date exhausted all their benefits. Please if you would sign it and tell all of your friends. The petition is sent to congress every time another person signs. It currently has over 15,000 signatures.

The issue is important personally because, quite frankly, every member of my family that had previously been working and supporting everyone else needs it because they have been out of work for that long. If we can "bail out" the banks that were a major cause of the economic collapse, and allow their executives to still get their exorbitant bonuses along with it, surely we can extend this pittance amount of money for a little more time to the people who have been the most devastated. Right?

Actually, that is the number one reason I have not been around here for such a long time now; the main reason I have not continued with my Integral research and writing, and the main reason I did not submit an article to the 2010 conference and will not by a long shot be attending. When LR's collapse one really appreciates the highly developed infrastructure they had been smoothly sailing upon, that afforded something like Integral to even be a priority. That may sound funny to some but I'm curious if anyone else has had to experience the same thing. When you are literally out digging a ditch, in the ancient manner commonly akin to grunt, slave labor, in order to ascertain even an abject glimmer that you will be able to provide for your loved one's basic survival needs (e.g. lowest rung on Maslow), well, maybe you get the point. Wow, academia is suddenly really far away . . .

Anyhow, will you go ahead and sign? It will mean a great deal of help in a difficult time to a great many people. And one way or another, yes, we will get it all worked out. Eventually. Until the complications of the next level come. And then the next. You get the point.

Peace out!

Love

Tim

Hi Tim!

Sorry to hear from you under these circumstances...but very pleased to hear from you nonetheless.

Of course I'll sign the petition, regardless of its "appropriateness" here.  Since your circumstances are so much more dire than mine, I'm rather reluctant to tell you how much I've been enjoying being unemployed.

Since my part-time gig in Sears' tool department ended here in February, '09 when the store closed, I've been on Unemployment Compensation.  Of course I was already receiving Social Security so it's been a great boon to me to have enough to get by - though not with much style - for the past 14 months without working.

Actually I probably could get by without the U.C. payments but at age 68 - and little prospect of finding anything I'd be able (or willing) to do - I'm most grateful for the extra that I've received.  I can't particularly "justify" my receiving it as I'm sure people like me were not the intended recipients when U.C. was first conceived.  But I "qualify" and so I take it.  And politics is as powerful as economics in determining how such programs evolve.

So thanks for a chance to "confess" publicly here.  May your public call be fruitful for you as well.

Done

I'm disabled. I have a mental illness that is still not under control even tho I'm working on it 24/7. I'm not just unemployed. I'm unemployable. This effects me. But I shouldn't have to be out on the street just because the System doesn't know it's ass from a hole in the ground and puts the money in both places.

So good to know you're still amongst the living!!

Interesting times indeed.  I think of you and your family every time I hear how grim things are in NV.  We're dealing with survival needs almost exclusively in my household also.  It really hurts to witness the suffering, strife and intolerance that appear so pervasive on the planet.  I continue to practice, and I guess it bothers me a little less.  Anyway, the world needs your voice; so hang in there.  Signed the petition and sending prayers in your general direction!

Love,

Chris

Thanks

Yup, still very much alive. Thanks for the sentiments! Yeah unemployment is officially about 13-14% here, but in reality it's probably upwards of 17-18% or more due to the large number of folks (immigrants, etc.) formerly working but not on the books so to speak. It does seem like the worst is over though, but I will knock on wood with that and say it very cautiously. Especially since, the more and more there are unemployed who are no longer eligible for any assistance, well, the less money there is in the economy.

But anyhow, thanks again!
