July 21, 2026 JP Jakonen woke up out of himself at thirteen in a sauna dressing room and had to remember his own name to get back. He and Keith Martin-Smith trade stories about early awakenings nobody had language for, the therapy and shadow work that had to come afterward, and the joy that arrives once you stop taking your life so personally.

JP Jakonen holds a PhD in Comparative Religion. He is the author of eight popular nonfiction books on philosophy, psychology, and human development, several of which have been published in multiple editions. His doctorate on “Ken Wilber as a Spiritual Innovator” is the first PhD dissertation on Wilber’s philosophy within the field of Comparative Religion.
JP is a certified Integral Coach through Integral Coaching Canada, having been part of the first European cohort trained in 2009 by founders Joanne Hunt and Laura Divine.
JP works with a global clientele from a remote island off the west coast of Finland, where he lives with his family and an aging Jeep Cherokee. In his spare time JP plays with his indie rock band Cliff Barnes, who toured the US in 2024.
